Hello Cecilia-my first thought is that when you bring in the dog, there will be trouble. it will take more than one vening to accustom the cats to the dog. I have had both dogs and cats for the last 30 years tho I no longe rhave cats.

Dogs LOVE to eat eat cat poop out of litter trays.

You will have to feed your cats only twice a day. It is not necessary to leave the food down all the time. That way you can keep the dog away whilst you feed.

An aside, but somehting you might like to think about: commercial pet foods are not really the best way to feed cats/dogs. It is unnatural and relies heavily on biologically inappropriate fodds-like grains. the foods are highly procressed and chemical laden. Thes foods cause peridontal disease which in tuen leads to heart disease and other diseases. I now feed my dogs on real food-chicken wings, offals, meats, eggs, fish etc. No grains, nothing is cooked. NEVER EVER feed a dogf or cat cooked bones. raw meaty bones are fine. the provide much in the way of nution and also keept he teeth clean. my dogs all have white teeth, even the older ones who wwere kibble fed for years now have white teeth. I get no tummy torubles, no gas, no bad breath, no fussy eaters, no skin problems. they all love their food.

If you wnat to find out more do a search for BARF(Bones and Raw Food or Biologically Appropraite Raw Food) on the net. you will get all the info you need. There are also cat speciifc sitres and email lists.

Good luck.
oh and what sort of dog is the dog? age? sex?

I no longer keep cats becasue I have more than 3 dogs and thus have a pack and a pack of dogs and cats do not mix.

We are adopting a dog (she's being brought over Thurs
to meet the cats and if all goes well she'll be
staying) and we need to find a solution to a dilemma.
We have 4 cats, 3 of whom eat Nutromax. They all get
fed on top of the clothes dryer. The 4th cat, he's a
very big(!) boy, eats Felidae and gets fed in the
kitchen. We leave the food out at all times.
Besides the fact that the big boy has trouble jumping
up on the dryer, he absolutly can't eat Nutromax
because it gives him severe diarrhea. So, that is
how we keep him away from that food.
Now with the dog joining our household we're trying to
figure out how and where we can feed the big boy
without the dog being able to get to the food. I
don't think keeping his food in a room with a baby
gate will work because it might be hard for the cat to
jump over the gate. We would appreciate any and all suggestions.
(I wonder if Joni had this problem when she added
little Coco to her household)
