happy new year lori, i was a squad leader in a combat platoon in vietnam
and i guarantee you point men were not assigned because they might hve been
gay. the point man is the MOST important person on combat patrol. that
person's instincts could mean the difference between walking into a
minefield, walking into a ambush, being off course, in short he could mean
the difference between life or death. the point man is not always or often
the first person killed. the enemy when they set an ambush don;t want one
person they want the main body to be in the killing zone. i don't thing
there's a squad leader out there who is willing to risk theirs or their
soldiers lives on a personal dislike for a person. that's what's funny
about combat, all of a sudden it doesn't matter whether your black or white,
hippie or redneck, gay or straight-------everyone wants to stay alive and
they get along. now back at base camp or at a secured area prejudices may
surfaced but not expressed like they are here in the states. happy new year
gene
