Though it remains to be seen if any of these covers become definitive, and 
they probably won't, but Joan Osborne's excellent "How Sweet It Is" sure fits 
the bill for re-conceptualized approaches. Some of the songs have been 
essentially recomposed, with new chords, new melody, new tempo, new feel. 
Joan and producer/musician John Levanthal (Shawn Colvin, et al.) have spun 
some real magic here. I love it.
