The axiom is; you don't shoot until you have ascertained the strength and spatial position of the enemy. Also your intelligence should collate inform you on the overall strength, manoeuvrability (tactical) and moral disposition of your enemy forces. Even with a few battalion, you could move swiftly to a great conquest over a division! WE ARE NOT CHILLING OUT! Arewo has summed it well, but we have to identify the real reasons for the decay, and until we do, we may in fact be empowering those responsible in the first place. I have had a first hand assessment of the situation - happened to be home on vacation and took the time to drive around with friends and family. Not really sure what to expect at the first but boy! I was simply appalled! The decay ran deep and your first thought on impulse is: "this must be a deliberate sabotage"! Yours truly met "Deborah" - she taught us geography / religious knowledge and heaven forgive me, I have remembered her only by the nick name we called her. She's old and a little frail now. I stopped to greet and to introduce myself ( didn't realize how much I'd changed myself!). As she told the story of how things have faired since we "passed" by. As she spoke you were left in no doubt that several factors over the years have combined to cause this "wreckage". Fixing our old Command would no doubt be a daunting task! I understand the zest, pride and good will exuded from these correspondences but any efforts must be concerted, deliberated and "restoration" plans carefully planned and deeply thought through! It would be a long journey, much as it has taken to cause this ruin or twice over! My suggestion on the way forward would be to initiate a frank discussion and feedback with the current Commandant, if and when the opportunity does come. The planned party in Abuja shouldn't be skewed to mere merriment - perhaps a genuine engagement can open the flood gate for the hidden issues to be spilled up. This communication forum can then be used to churn out suggestions on the many issues that may be propped. But first, I think a co-ordinating committee would have to be set up to harness these and in time plan a meeting where as many members as can converge do so or representatives (from all the branches of CoJOSA) to champion and own the process in their respective domains - voluntary soldiers serve the best! If I have managed to ignite some passion on this topic, let the debate begin. I trust our collective goodwill will pave the way for a fruitful deliberation. Cheers! Gabriel Bigwan '85.
