[jQuery] Resizable Div with Shadow Effect?

Has anyone been able to create s div element with a shadow effect and
resize this div layer to fit the height and/or width of the
dynamically changing content?  As I understand it, you can't resize
background images.  But, is there another way to do this without a
background image?
