I'd suggest using the more generic $.ajax method so you can actually
catch the error, as the $.getJSON fails silently, which is no good for
programmers  :-(

     dataType: "json",
     success: function(json) {
          alert("success");
     },
     error: function(x,y,z) {
         // x.responseText should have what's wrong
     }
});
