Greetings All!

My first and final post on this the OFF-TOPIC issue, please indulge me.

"JSP-Interest: A mailing list about Java Server Pages specification and
reference."

To Mr. Koon and Mr. Ottinger: I can appreciate and understand your opinions
on this issue.

"JSP-Interest: A mailing list about Java Server Pages specification and
reference."

In response to Mr. Koon, I disagree with you. You are accusing Mr. Ottinger
of flaming the posters of stupid questions. I have only seen Mr. Ottinger
flame the posters of stupid off-topic questions; people seem to be missing
this argument. We are all frustrated by the off-topic posts. I especially
loath the 'how do I unsubscribe?' messages (when the instructions are listed
at the bottom of every post).

reference."

In Mr. Ottinger's defense, he has politely answered JSP questions in this
list (most of them simple). While I understand his actions, I do not agree
with them; however, I will not condemn him. If we ignore the off-topic
questions, I believe they will soon dissipate. Flaming the sender results
in a defensive reaction followed by support from both sides. (The single
"JDBC Drivers comparing" post resulted in 1 initial post and 7 follow-ups on
that thread followed by this and other threads).

reference."

We can often identify the off-topic posts by their subject; please ignore
them. Perhaps we should put the list description in every post:
"JSP-Interest: A mailing list about Java Server Pages specification and
reference." Of course, it is already in the name of the Reply-To address,
how many times do we need to publish it for the point to stick ( from
message header -> "Reply-To: A mailing list about Java Server Pages
specification and reference <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>" ).
