how to refresh the client

hi all ,

my client is an applet which opens a contacts a jsp on the remote server. 
It gets the necessary data and displays it .
After the initial connection, the server needs to update the applet whenever an event 
occurs at the server site without the applet requesting the data. 

is it possible??
