In 0.5, the "native" slice syntax like M[1:end,2:end], both strided and 
non-strided, will return a view.

In 0.4, M[:] etc returns a copy, but you can get a view by the "slice" 
function as Tim mentioned.  So, the functionality is there now, but the 
syntax is a little less familiar.
