Funny thing,

please try out -Duser.language=de . Using oracle jdk it works as expected, the 
field is shortened with ... in realtime. Seems to me that the root cause here 
is something else. It shouldn't behave different in different languages. It 
should not care what text at all. Anyway will look at it later more in detail.

Regarding Linux: OpenJDK seems not to shorten anything, will have to find a 
workaround for this.
