it could be connected to the images on FillPatern folder. Too many. Did you try 
to move them on another folder? We don't need them on FillPattern dir as they 
can be loaded using "load image" option

as far as i can pinpoint it is the FillPattern loading algorithm. Renaming or 
deleting the folder with the pattern brings it up to a to 2513 comparable speed.

should we fix it or leave it to geoff?
