From users point of view it would make sense to have only limited
functionalities. What are we doing with ME devices like PocketPCs or
simliar with a mobile GIS (not so much)?
I think we can list the main features as:
- just log GPS signal (so a self explaning GPS plugin is recommend)
- mapping in the field (draw some points and/or polygons and give them
some attributes)
- navigate to specific locations (from mappings done before)
- maps or raster images (e.g. MrSid format or georeferenced JPEG) as
background layers
I am dreaming from a MobileJUMP and deinstall ArcPad from my PocketPC.
Kindly regards

Porting OpenJump to Java ME would definitely be cool and difficult.
OpenJump currently requires too many resources to fit within the
constraints of Java ME devices. It might be possible to make a
stripped down version similar to ArcPad with limited editing and
support for only shapefiles and GML. I think ME provides Swing and
Java2D so most of the code should work. I played around with ME a few
years ago and managed to get a java app running on my Motorola phone.
Given the limited screen area of such devices, the layer name panel
would have to be replaced with a fly-out pallet. Come to think of it,
that wouldn't be a bad idea anyway.

Hei Hisaji,
a very good question.
We don't have any real development plan and currently the JPP and with
it OpenJUMP is an organization independent of any commercial
constraints
and goals.
every contribution is more or less volunteered. I guess this is
unique
among the OS GIS and I don't know if this is good or bad.
time will tell. But i clearly see an advantage in JUMPs straight
forward
plugin concept to add functionality.
I hope this year we will still see 1.3 release (switching from 1.2
D to
1.3). And maybe a switch or inclusion of GDBS and imageJ (from
Erwans team).

note: other thoughts are welcome :)
