Brad, As Stefan mentioned on a UNIX based system (which Mac OX X is) you can get this kind of error if the line endings of the file are MS DOS line endings or if the first line of the file #!/bin/sh cannot be found on your system. If you force it to run with sh by doing sh openjump.sh and the line endings are correct then it will work.
