Hi,

I have been thinking that dataset is close to same as "layer". So Save Selected 
Dataset is saving the whole layer you are working on and it should save all 
features on that layer. If you want to save just the selected features with 
OpenJUMP you must first copy them on a new layer. I think this is a proper way. 
 Think about if you have digitised the whole day and created hundreds of 
features and then you have not selected any/all of them when pressing "Save...".
Of course there might be another "Save Selected Features as..." but even that 
could make surprises if you have selections from many original layers, for 
example.
