Tommasso, I run OpenJUMP on Debian, which is similar to Ubuntu. Did you use a Debian package to install OpenJUMP, or some other installer?
Let me know that Iand I'll see if I can assist you. Arnd, It shouldn't be that hard to install the JRE on Ubunutu. I believe the JRE is now available for Ubuntu through the official repository.
