hi larry,
I know it but I need to use more complicated patterns as classical geological map symbols.
Here there are some examples

Hi Michele,

If you are using attributes, you might consider using colour theming. It is possible to customize the line type, as far as OJ supports (color, width, pattern, etc.), for each cell using the Custom entry in the drop down.

Hi,
yes, but in that case I'll lose all the advantages of selecting feature by attributes since we need to use about 10 different kind of line patterns within the same layer. I should select thousands of lines one by one and apply a line pattern!

ciao

Michele,

Have you considered exporting SVG from OpenJUMP and then using a
program like Inkscape to draft your final maps?

Hi Michele,
actuallly it is not possible to add personalized geological lines in
an OpenJUMP project.
OpenJUMP "Change Style" allows only to customize colour, line width
and simple line types (continuos, dotted, etc).
On line type ("Motivo Linea", in Italian), instead to choose defined
line type, you can write down the value of lines, for instance
1,10,1,10 describes a (quasi)dotted while 10,1,10,1 describes a line with
1(unit) interuption every 10 (unit) line.
In my opion, as geololgist, OpenJUMP can be used to customize good
geological projects, using the advansed analysis tools. While a fork of
JUMP project, Kosmo SAIG, can be used to customize more advanced style
displays of a map, included normal/reverse fault lines.
I invite you to follow both project together with CADPLAN
http://www.cadplan.com.au/jump.html OpenJUMP plugin projects.
For the future information, the OpenJUMP User List moved to
http://groups.google.com/group/openjump-users

 Buon Lavoro

dear all,
is it possible to add personalized line patterns or decorations to
lines?

e.g. dotted lines with pre-defined formatting or other more complex
patterns as used in geological maps (in my case)

thanks
