I thought same some time ago, but today I was attempted to configure 
vlan id 1100. Configuration was accepted (by commit), but does not work:
 
> show interfaces fe-1/3/0.1100
error: interface fe-1/3/0.1100 not found

And... You posted link http://tinyurl.com/35h6cz. The column with IDs have
name  "VLAN ID _Range_" :-(
