 Ethernet, 802.1q and q-in-q are all standards based. Also, I don't think
this command strips vlan tags.  I think it configures the juniper to ignore
them on ingress.

What happens when you trunk the port on the cisco and actually send an
receive frames in vlan 500? Also what does the cisco side say?
