Some teachers from Nonnewaug High School say they were given no meaningful role in supervising a special remedial program in which instruction is provided entirely by computer. They contend the program violates a state mandate that a certified teacher be responsible for instruction, evaluation, and grading of students. The district's superintendent worries that opposition by the local and state unions is putting in jeopardy a program that could be a lifeline for some students. What role should technology play in the classroom? Should teachers be concerned about technology replacing them?
