Hey Ramsey:

Well, the first suggestion was partly right. But I still kept ending up with no sign 
the query had
ever run. I got suspicious that the other form on the first page (and/or its 
associated javascript)
was interfering. So I created a new temporary page with just an HTML shell and the 
form I'm trying
to debug. Bingo it works. So I'm on the right track; it's not a CF problem.
