You might try re-installing after backing up everything. I look at it more as a time crunch mission critical issue. If something happened where a file was removed or corrupted in the process, you might end up spending too much time screwing around trying to pin point the issue, when it might take less time to back it all up and re-install the OS or just the program that has the corrupted files.
