Bug ID: 514728
Summary: Black screen on resume from suspend on Strix Halo APU
Classification: Plasma
Product: kwin
Version First 6.5.4
Reported In:
Platform: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: wayland-generic
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
SUMMARY
On my HP Zbook Ultra G1A with Strix Halo APU resume from suspend often shows a
black screen. The mouse cursor is not available, and I could not switch to
other virtual consoles. Killing `kwin_wayland` over ssh connection restores the
screen.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Kernel `6.18.5` with additional patches applied (see this comment:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues/4866#note_3285085)
3. Plasma version `6.5.5` (same problem happens on `6.5.4`)
2. Logged in using wayland session type
3. Trigger sleep and then resume from it
OBSERVED RESULT
The screen is black in ~70% of cases. Sometimes everything works ok. If I
switch to an X11 session - no problems with resume. In `dmesg` output - no
errors/warnings on resume. Attaching/detaching the external monitor does not
change the state. Only killing `kwin_wayland` helps.
In logs I see:
kwin_core: Failed to delay sleep: The operation inhibition has been requested
for is already running
kwin_wayland_drm: Atomic modeset test failed! Permission denied
kwin_wayland_drm: Setting dpms mode failed!
So initially I assumed I am affected by either
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=513151 or
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=511118, but now I am not sure.
EXPECTED RESULT
The screen is working normally after resuming from the suspend state.
