            Bug ID: 523221
Summary: Kernel headers fail to install resulting in a kernel
                    panic (Kernel V7)
    Classification: KDE Neon
           Product: neon
      Version First unspecified
       Reported In:
          Platform: Neon
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: critical
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]

                    [email protected]
  Target Milestone: ---

Due to a move, I have not had the opportunity to update the system from 6.6.5
to 6.7 until last night. The headers for kernel 7 fail to install. No reason
given. This results in a kernel panic (vfs: unable to mount root fs on
unknown-block (0,0)). In the past the kernel panic was caused by my wifi driver
which needs to be recompiled (it is a third party driver that uses dkms). I
recompiled the driver however this time it still panics.

Attempting to install the headers manually results in the following errors:

E: linux-headers-7.0.0-28-generic: installed linux-headers-7.0.0-28-generic
package
post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 11
E: linux-headers-generic-7.0: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
E: linux-headers-generic-hwe-24.04: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
E: linux-generic-hwe-24.04: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
E: linux-image-7.0.0-28-generic: installed linux-image-7.0.0-28-generic package
post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 11

Rebooting and using the older kernel (6.17) launches the system but I cannot
log into my user account with wayland. I can log in with x11. I can login to a
clean account with wayland, but that is not helpful as I need my configs the
way they are.

I fixed the previous dependency conflict with pulse-audio by installing
pipewire-audio which installs missing packages and removes pulse.
