Bug ID: 527063
Summary: Option for file path supplied by drag & drop to be
updated to save location
Classification: Applications
Product: Spectacle
Version First 6.7.5
Reported In:
Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: wishlist

Target Milestone: ---
DESCRIPTION
When using drag & drop on a screenshot into another application (e.g. terminal,
discord, etc) Spectacle always supplies the temporary file path (e.g.
/tmp/Spectacle.XyAdTe/Screenshot_yyyymmdd_hhmmss.png).
This works in most situations but can be problematic when /tmp has been hidden
by a sandbox (e.g. firejail).
Although one can make rules to allow /tmp/Spectacle.* to be accessible the glob
is evaluated at sandbox creation and therefore won't allow access to new
temporary folders when Spectacle starts after the sandbox.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create a screenshot with Spectacle
2. Open a sandboxed bash session in a terminal with: firejail
--whitelist=/tmp/Spectacle.* bash
3. Drag & drop the screenshot from Spectacle into your terminal and test if the
file is accessible. This should succeed.
4. Close Spectacle and open it again.
5. Create another screenshot and drag & drop it into the terminal and test if
the file is accessible. This will fail.
Note that the Spectacle folder ending has changed.
SUGGESTION
Let the path returned by drag & drop become the save location when the
screenshot has been saved. This behavior could be enabled via an extra option
to preserve the current default behavior.
This would be helpful especially in combination with the option "After taking a
screenshot save file to default folder", so that the supplied file path would
be updated immediately after taking the screenshot.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
firejail version 0.9.80
