            Bug ID: 527079
Summary: Floating panel becomes non-floating when Fcitx5
candidate window or input method notification appears
    Classification: Plasma
           Product: plasmashell
      Version First 6.8.0
       Reported In:
          Platform: Fedora RPMs
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: Panel
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]
  Target Milestone: 1.0

DESCRIPTION

After upgrading from Plasma 6.7 to 6.8.0, I noticed that my floating panel
becomes non-floating whenever Fcitx5 displays its candidate window or input
method switching notification.

This happens consistently when typing with Fcitx5 or switching input methods.
The issue did not occur in Plasma 6.7.

I found that removing the newly added virtual keyboard visibility condition
from `Panel.qml` resolves the issue.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. Start a Plasma 6.8.0 Wayland session with Fcitx5 enabled.
2. Configure a bottom panel to use the floating style.
3. Open a text editor and type using Fcitx5 to display its candidate window.
4. Alternatively, switch input methods to trigger the Fcitx5 notification.
5. Observe the floating panel.

OBSERVED RESULT

Whenever the Fcitx5 candidate window or input method notification appears, the
floating panel immediately loses its floating appearance and becomes attached
to the screen edge.

EXPECTED RESULT

The panel should remain floating when Fcitx5 displays candidate windows or
input method notifications.

Only windows or on-screen keyboards that actually require the panel to become
non-floating should trigger this behavior.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

Operating System: Fedora Linux 44
KDE Plasma Version: 6.8.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.31.0
Qt Version: 6.11.2
Kernel Version: 7.2.10-200.fc44.x86_64 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Input Method: Fcitx5

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

I suspect this regression was introduced by the following commit:

https://github.com/KDE/plasma-desktop/commit/afeef517fbd2f4d9e4daf6c94ae6e79a4c8cdc0a

The commit added the following condition to the floating panel logic:

`touchingWindow || (bottomEdge && Keyboards.KWinVirtualKeyboard.visible)`

It seems that Fcitx5 popups may trigger the virtual keyboard visibility state,
causing Plasma to treat them as an on-screen keyboard.

I tested a workaround by editing:

`/usr/share/plasma/shells/org.kde.plasma.desktop/contents/views/Panel.qml`

I changed the `touchingWindowOrKeyboard` property to:

`readonly property bool touchingWindowOrKeyboard: touchingWindow`

After restarting Plasma Shell, the issue disappeared completely. Fcitx5
candidate windows and input method notifications no longer affect the floating
panel.

This suggests that the new virtual keyboard visibility condition is responsible
for the regression.

Ideally, the panel should distinguish between an actual on-screen keyboard and
Fcitx5 candidate or notification popups.
