Bug ID: 527538
Summary: macOS: paired Android phone remains disconnected after
login until Refresh; startup logs mDNS socket failure
Classification: Applications
Product: kdeconnect
Version First 26.08.2
Reported In:
Platform: Other
OS: Other
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: macos-application
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
SUMMARY
KDE Connect starts automatically when I log into my Mac, but my already
paired Pixel 9 Pro does not connect automatically. Manually clicking
Refresh makes it show as trusted and connected without re-pairing.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE ON THE AFFECTED MACHINE
1. Pair the Mac and Android phone.
2. Enable KDE Connect as a macOS login item.
3. Boot the Mac and log in with both devices on the same local network.
4. Observe that the phone remains disconnected.
5. Click Refresh in KDE Connect.
OBSERVED RESULT
Refresh restores the connection without changing pairing or permissions.
The daemon was confirmed running from login. Its startup log contains:
2026-10-20 07:35:34.376
kdeconnect.core: Failed to open any MDNS server sockets
During diagnosis:
- The login item was enabled.
- The saved pairing was intact.
- The macOS application firewall was disabled.
- After connection, the daemon had an established LAN TCP connection.
- Restarting KDE Connect while networking was already available
automatically reconnected the phone without Refresh.
EXPECTED RESULT
KDE Connect should discover and reconnect to an already paired device
after login, including recovery if initial discovery starts before
usable network interfaces are available.
