Bug ID: 528177
Summary: Centered placement still offset down-right on 6.8.2
when no other windows are open, depends on fractional
scale factor (follow-up to bug 525036)
Classification: Plasma
Product: kwin
Version First 6.8.2

Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR

DESCRIPTION
Bug 525036 (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=525036) is marked as fixed in
6.8.0. On 6.8.2 I still see the same behavior described there, and it changes
with the screen's scale factor.
With no other windows open on the screen, KDE/Qt applications open down and to
the right of the screen center. As soon as another window is open on the same
screen, new windows open centered.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Single monitor, 2560x1440, scale 120%
2. Close all windows
3. Open a KDE/Qt application: [KDE Discover]
OBSERVED RESULT
The window opens down and to the right of the screen center.
EXPECTED RESULT
The window opens centered on the screen.
SCALE FACTOR DEPENDENCE
Same monitor, same steps, only the scale factor changed:
- 100%: closer to the center, but not exactly centered
- 120%: offset down-right
- 125%: centered
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Only KDE/Qt apps are affected. GTK apps and Brave open centered.
- The only QT_* environment variable set is QT_WAYLAND_RECONNECT=1.
- Single display (kscreen-doctor -o lists only DP-3).
