I think this is probably a race condition, because when my VM window was in a lower resolution (close to but not quite 1366x768), the bug didn't occur. When I set it to a high resolution, then it occurred. I'm guessing with 2 4K monitors, things must initialize quickly enough to hide the condition, but with mismatched monitors, the initialization goes slower and the condition appears.
