Or at least, when I delete a file or a folder using the desktop, its entry gets removed from the config file. Deleting items from elsewhere also works for me; e.g. if I `rm` a file on the desktop using a terminal, Plasma notices it and removes its config file entry. Which means in general this feature works, and any issues with it are edge case bugs.
