SUMMARY

STEPS TO REPR.ODUCE
1. Install KDE neon 22.04 on Lenovo IdeaCentre B750 onto 256GB SSD using
downloaded .iso installer on USB Flash using GPT/EFI partitioning. Use Neon
22.04 daily for months, and customize desktop and panel.
2. Backup SSD EFI and root partitions to external 2GB USB backup hard drive
using gparted partition copy and paste, and generate new UUIDs for for each new
backup partition with gnome-disk-utility or gparted. Verify that PC boots
22.04 LTS Neon from external USB drive.
3. Check for updates with Discover, and wait till 24.04 LTS Upgrade appears in
systray.
4. While backup drive is still attached, execute 24.04 LTS upgrade by clicking
on Upgrade icon in systray. Follow prompts to complete the upgrade.external USB
backup drive (Note that OS prober was invoked and modified the backup drive's
boot configuration, by watching upgrade details window. Upon completion,
restart the PC.

OBSERVED RESULT:
The PC will not boot Neon from either the SSD drive at 24.04 or from the
external USB backup drive at 22.04. After using BIOS boot manager to select
which drive to boot from BIOS boot manager, observe that the PC then goes to
the BIOS Setup screen after about 15 seconds attempting to boot without
displaying any text logging of neon boot attempt on PC screen. After inserting
my original 22.04 live .iso installer USB flash drive, boot from live USB flash
and the mount SSD and external 2TB Hard drive partitions and observe that they
are intact, but will not boot.

This upgrade was a complete disaster for me that will require multiple days of
my time to reconstitute a new working Neon system, with all the apps and panel
icons that I have lost. I suggest you withdraw the 22.04 upgrade from the
Discover updater until you can test and resolve this issue, which has
apparently been experienced by others. Fix it before it breaks too many other
people's systems!!!

EXPECTED RESULT:
The PC should have booted 24.04 LTS from the SSD that was upgraded, and also
should have been been able to boot from external 2GB USB hard drive, which
should not have been modified by the upgrade process. (I could have protected
the 2TB external USB hard drive images by unplugging the USB hard drive's USB
cable from the PC's USB port before attempting the 24.04 upgrade, but who knew
the upgrade would break it?)

If you can let me know what upgrade log files you would like me to upload, I
can attempt to retrieve them from the SSD drive, but please do so quickly,
because I need to do a clean install of 24.04) on the SSD. Also if it is
possible to recover my Plasma panel customizations from my backup, and
reinstall them on 24.04 Plasma, please let me know how.
