This is still true; moreso because the binary packages on bionicmutton are now fairly old wrt. the specfiles, although I don't think any of the software versions have changed. Use the specfiles; certainly if you're trying to do anything on S10 as opposed to Nevada. OpenSolaris is yet another issue - I have my binary packages running on an Eee, but that's no real guarantee.
