this is not about kde anymore, but about firefox ... and in fact, not even 
that, as gdb has issues as well. I don't know the correct alias, but 
kde-discuss is not it, I'm afraid ...

  ... nevertheless, this is what I'd do:

# pkgchk -n
and record the output, then go through it. I suspect that something rather 
vital is broken.
