That explains why openoffice doesn't suffer the same problems.

Certainly you notice the problems more when you zoom in, but I can still see 
the problems even at 100%. Zooming doesn't affect the printed results of 
course. The letters v & y seem to be the worst culprits.

I believe these are the same ones I have from Windows, but I'll try 
uninstalling them & install the ones in the port to see if makes any 
difference.

Thanks for your help Raphael, I'll do some more experimenting and see what 
turns up. Incidently, I've found Franklin Gothic seems to work better than 
Arial & Times New Roman, though it's still a little wonky with v & y.
