What does it have as default font? Take a look in
~/.kde/share/config/konsolerc . The current default is

defaultfont=courier,12,-1,2,50,0,0,0,0,0

near as I can tell (clean start on new user, start konsole, hit "save as
default"). I can't spot this anywhere in the code, so it might be coming from

main.cpp:        QFont tmpFont = KGlobalSettings::fixedFont();

Take a look in KControl -- what's your system default fixed font? Can you find
one there that looks better from the standard fonts?

Since it's a single-time configuration change, I guess it's not big thing. By
the time I get around to having to configure a fresh KDE and konsole again,
I've always forgotten what I wanted as default anyway (Lucida Typewriter,
bold, 12pt I think).
