hello Michael,

just a note to thank you, again for the reassurances:
Path:   /usr/ports/deskutils/kdepim3
is that trailing "...3" going to snag on anything?
No.

PORTNAME= kdepim #<= but not here!?
PORTNAME and the name of the directory a port is in don't necessarily match.

Generally Makefiles need to be understood by make only, not by users. :-)

CONFLICTS=      akregator-[0-9]* kdenetwork-3.1.*
i'm guessing i might need to address these conflicts sooner rather than

You don't need to address anything - if you're trying to install conflicting packages, ports or pkg_add will tell you (and not let you).

got around to installing the kdepim3 port late last night, and right away ran into a conflict with an earlier version of akregator (-1.0.b8_2, for anyone watching). was getting a lot of those "couldn't entirely delete... packing list incorrectly specified?" messages, but must have got enough of the cruft outta there to see the 'registering install...' for kdepim3 message late this morning. i went on to install the xscreensaver-kde port, which took care of the kdeartwork3 one, and got back a kde 3.4.0 kmail, knode, etc. a short time later. still haven't found the clock screensaver, but i'm heading off to work shortly, so it's a job for later, at the moment, at least.

making a note to cc the list...

thanks again.
