One thing to check would be to see if you already have a binary kompmgr
installed, even if there's no package registered.
I don't think so, but how can I find out?
The x11/kdebase3 port checks for kompmgr by looking for a file named -
surprise, surprise - "kompmgr" ;). Just do a "which kompmgr" to see
whether you have it installed. On my system (with the "x11-wm/kompmgr"
port installed), it's in /usr/local/bin.
Also make sure you really don't have "X_WINDOW_SYSTEM=xfree86-4" or
something of the like in make.conf.
