I've installed it in one of my laptops running FreeBSD 6.0-REL
and it plays fine the audio with their tool 'osstest'. KDE's sound
works as well, but...

KDE's artsd (sound server) from time to time raises an error message
box saying:

        AudioSubSystem::handleIO: write failed
        len = -1, can_write = 8, errno = 35 (Resource temporarily
        unavailable)

which terminates the daemon and KDE restarts it.

The older version of OSS did not have had this problem (I had to
update because the license expires every 6 monthes :-()

The developers of OSS say:

> Hi Matthias,
>
>
> There are some bugs in KDE's artsd - we don't know who to contact to and
> tell them tofix it because in Gnome it works fine with ESD server.
        ...

Any comments on this? If not I will fire up a bug report in KDE.
