Hi Jonathan,
Thx for your feedback in any case. The laptop we're speaking about
is the one of my wife. She is a "user" only, without any technic
background, and half year ago I've installed her a FreeBSD 6.0-REL
saying that in my house never ever will enter a laptop with Windows :-)
I've installed all what she needs for web, e-mail, messengers, DVD movies,
CD, ... and so on and, really, she's happy and the laptop fits her
needs. The audio chipset is:
vendor = 'Intel Corporation'
device = '82801FB/FR/FW/FRW Intel High DefiNition Audio Controller'
and right now, at least in January of this year, there is/was no
support for this Intel High Def. in FreeBSD. So I've installed
in January the OSS driver from OpenSound which worked good with
KDE and aRtsd until, exactly after six monthes, the license let
it stop working.
I'm hoping that one day in the future there is support for
Intel HD in FreeBSD as well. I'm already thinking about an
update to 6.1-REL which brings KDE 3.5.2, but this will not change
the above described situation concerning the audio chip.
