The link referenced doesn't exist anymore, and I think that's the page that 
the first document I found (unixlike_translation.txt) was a translation of. 
However, I've discovered what was missing. I was put symlinks 
in /usr/X11R6/lib/browser_plugins/ to the stuff 
in /usr/X11R6/lib/linux-flashplugin7/ (which is now actually installed 
in /usr/local/lib/npapi/linux-flashplugin/ ), when the symlinks should be 
in /usr/X11R6/lib/linux-firefox/plugins/ or /usr/X11R6/lib/firefox/plugins/ 
for linux and native versions of firefox, respectively.

That's a little user unfriendly, but at least everything works now (though as 
Michael noted originally sound on YouTube only works with the linux firefox). 
Hope someone else can make use of this before the steps change again... (BTW, 
I'm running FreeBSD 6.x.)
