I've read it now and still don't see why it applies to this particular
app. The app has no community that could be split, hell its not even
used by more than 3 people directly.

I do understand the problem with core modules and even extragear, I hate
to hunt stuff down myself too (wether to just build it or even
collaborate on it). But Aaron's example about amarok is pretty weak,
there are tools out there (kdesvn-build anyone?) that take care of
updating and building what you want to follow, no need for manually
tracking a git repository.
