Hi, it appears that both Kea server and ISC DHCP server ignore the Rapid Commit
option and send ADVERTISE in response to a client's SOLICIT instead of sending
REPLY. I would really rather use a two-message exchange and so would really
like it if Kea could add support for Rapid Commit. Is this planned for an
upcoming
Kea release?

Thanks - Fred

I found out how to get ISC DHCP server to service Rapid Commit; still
haven't figured out how to do it on Kea.

I don't know (yet) for Kea but for ISC DHCP rapid commit must be
configured at both ends.

Kea doesn't support this yet. It is not terribly complicated feature,
but unfortunately it is not in scope for 0.9.2 or 1.0 release.

Hi Marcin,

Unfortunately, I have only a very simple client that only knows how to
do 2-message exchanges (i.e., Rapid Commit) - the 4-message exchange
would complicate the design. As such, I will have to go back to ISC DHCP
for the time being, which I was hoping I would not have to do.

You mentioned that the function is not in-scope for the upcoming Kea
releases, but if your team were to produce prototype code for Rapid
Commit I would be very happy to serve as a field test site. Let me know
if such an arrangement would be useful.

Thanks - Fred

Let me qualify that - I was using the ISC dhclient which worked fine with
Kea doing 4-message exchanges. But, I have since written a DHCPv6
client from-scratch that only does 2-message and will be using this
instead of ISC dhclient from now on. I have my written-from-scratch
client working fine with ISC DHCP.

Hi Fred,

I will spend a minute or two this week and figure out how much time it
would take to implement it and I will get back to you whether we can get
it sooner. I don't promise anything at this point, though.
