Raring (kernel 3.8) also exhibits this bug.
Quantal did not (kernel 3.5).
Radeon HD 5650/5750 / 6530M/6550M (someone on the internet says Radeon dropped 
all HD support)

Grub can be seen, but xorg graphics does not work with or without fglrx
on Raring and Saucy.

Reverting to 12.04 with LTS upgrades only.  Hopefully something will
work again in 14.04.
