I have installed the v4.18.rc8-generic kernel (uname: 4.18.0-041800rc8-generic)
Unfortunately the problem remains.
Although the driver reports itself as the exact same version as in the Ubuntu
kernel (info: MWIFIEX VERSION: mwifiex 1.0 (15.68.7.p154) it produced a
slightly different dmesg output which might be of help here.
I do not know how to set tags here, I would ask you to set
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Title:
wifi (mwifiex_pcie) stops working undeterministically in 18.04 on
  Surface Pro 3

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I am using the mainline kernel on Ubuntu 18.04 on a Surface Pro 3.
After a varying amount of time the wifi connection is gone. The driver does
not seem to respond anymore to any action invoked by the gnome ui.
My only known workaround for this is to reboot. In this state the shutdown
process may take several minutes.

  Version signature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-30.32-generic 4.15.18
  lsb_release:
  Description: Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS
  Release: 18.04
