I don't think this is a kernel issue. The machine has a cdrom drive
which the kernel identifies correctly. You're booting from USB and not
the CDROM, so yes /dev/sr0 (the cdrom) has no media.

From kern.log:

The installer finds the image, so I'm not sure what causes the error.
Looks more like a build/installer issue than kernel.

Title:
Daily Lubuntu Questing fails to boot in Lenovo C30

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
The failure happens rather early in the boot process. when booting Lubuntu
Questing from a USB pendrive. The grub menu is OK, but the process get stuck
with a repeated error output to the screen, '/init: line38: can't open
/dev/sr0: no media
  ...
Unable to find a medium containing a live image

Obviously I cannot report from the failing system, but I can attach
what was sometime written to the writable partition. (However, I am
not sure if [some of] it was written while booting in another
computer, a Dell Precision M4800, where it works.

Please notice that the same failure occurs when trying to boot Ubuntu
Desktop Questing, so I suspect that this bug affects several if not
all Ubuntu flavours, and I guess the linux kernel is to blame.

Please notice also that the output below about Ubuntu 22.04 was
produced automatically (but that version was possible to install, and
has been working for years). I am reporting a bug about Lubuntu (and
  Ubuntu Desktop) *Questing*.
