I have had some issues with Zebra 2.0.26 on a couple of Ubuntu installs. Not all, just a couple. I downloaded and installed Zebra 2.0.24 and the searching worked again.

Then find in the koha-zebra daemon scripts if it is using the correct variables. At last, check that your zebra data directories have the correct user and permissions. It is quite strnage it does so only for OPAC and not for intranet though.
