Preparatory committees formed
Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) -- Preparatory committees for celebrating
the 58th birthday of General
Secretary Kim Jong Il were inaugurated in different countries.
Inaugural meetings were held in Congo, Uganda and Mexico between
January 12 and 14.
Chairmen and vice-chairmen of the committees were elected at the meetings.
The committees fixed a month for celebration and decided to organize
colorful events including celebrating and
friendly meetings during the period.
Baguma Isoke, Minister of State for Water, Lands and Environment of
Uganda, said in a meeting that it is a
world-wide annual tradition to significantly celebrate the birthday of Kim
Jong Il as a common holiday of
humankind.
This is an expression of unbounded respect and reverence of the world
progressives for him who is making
immortal contribution to the human cause of independence and of friendship
and solidarity with the Korean people
who are advancing under the uplifted banner of the Juche idea.
Disgraceful behaviour of pro-Japanese arch traitor
Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) -- The Japanese reactionaries in Shimane
Prefecture are now seeking to
extend census registration to Tok Islet with the approval of the authorities.
This is a premeditated act of aggression to occupy the islet, an
inalienable territory of Korea.
Rodong Sinmun today says that the very one who fosters the arrogant
brigandish act of Japan is the ruler of the
"people's government" which was branded as Ulsa five traitors of modern
version.
The chief executive of South Korea in a "joint New Year address" said
that he "cleared up" "misfortunes and
troubles" between South Korea and Japan and made a clean sheet of Japan's
liquidation of the past which the
successive rulers, pro-Japanese traitors, dared not do so, the news analyst

It is the South Korean ruler who called the king of Japan, a symbol of

Implementation of revolutionary economic policy called for
Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) -- The most important task to be fulfilled
by the Korean people to glorify this
year, the WPK's 55th anniversary, with brilliant successes is to hold fast
to the revolutionary economic policy of the
party and make a fresh Chollima advance, Rodong Sinmun today says in an
editorial. It goes on:
The revolutionary economic policy set forth by General Secretary Kim
Jong Il is aimed to resolutely defend and
further exalt the immortal exploits made by the great leader Kim Il Sung in
the fields of the socialist economic
construction. It is the most realistic one of Korean style based on a
scientific analysis of the aspiration of the Korean
people and the country's economic situation and a revolutionary one to
firmly defend the socialist principle in
economic construction.
Successful implementation of the revolutionary economic policy of the
party would provide a sure guarantee for
making another great advance of Chollima this year and an effective way of
smashing the economic blockade of the
imperialists and firmly defending socialism of Korean style.
It is the most important for us to hold fast to the revolutionary
economic policy of the party and carry it out in
order to make once again a big advance of Chollima in the socialist
economic construction.
The moves of the imperialists to economically suffocate socialism of
Korean style have become all the more
undisguised.
The revolutionary economic policy of the party is the economic strategy

on our own feet under any conditions.
A successful implementation of the revolutionary economic policy of the

KCNA on arms buildup of S. Korean authorities
Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) -- The "Ministry of National Defence" of
South Korea reportedly announced a
plan to deploy this year 100 units of the Israeli-made "Harpy", an unmanned
attacker capable of destroying
missile-tracking radar bases.
This is a very grave move for arms buildup as it fully reveals the
South Korean bellicose elements' more
undisguised psychology of confrontation with the north and their criminal
attempt to have a military edge over the
north and provoke a war against it.
At the outset of the year, they held a "security meeting," at which
they cried out for "intensified counteraction,"
talking about someone's "provocation." While staging various forms of war
maneuvers one after another, they
announced a plan for military spending amounting to about 5.3 trillion won
for this year and also scheme to
massively introduce weapons of mass destruction from Israel and other
countries.
This very ill-boding military move compels us to heighten vigilance.
Given that the "Harpy" is to be deployed for action, coupled with the
introduction of 20 ultra-modern military
equipment including different types of missiles capable of "attacking major
targets in North Korea," large
submarines, transport ships, the aim sought by them in this arms buildup is
very dangerous.
The facts show how hypocritical "exchange and cooperation" advertised
by the South Korean authorities are,
and indicate that they are still resorting to the "stick strategy." The
South Korean bellicose elements are escalating the
arms buildup as never before and taking the road of war aggravating
confrontation with the fellow countrymen in the
north, going against the trend of the times when the ardent desire of the
nation for reunification is running high, but
this will lead them to self-destruction.
They are well advised to stop at once the reckless arms buildup.
Revolutionary optimism, traditional character
Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) -- There still exist ordeals and
difficulties in the struggle of the Korean people
to make a decisive advance in building a powerful nation this year.
But the Korean people are filled with confidence in victory and
determination to carry out the tasks set forth in
the joint editorial of the newspapers of the party, the army and youth for
this year at any cost, knowing neither
pessimism nor vacillation.
The optimistic spirit of the Korean people filled with confidence in
their victory is the traditional character which
has been formed and developed together with the Korean revolution.
During the period of the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle commanded
by the President Kim Il Sung the
Korean revolutionaries had fought against the Japanese with conviction of
sure victory and optimism and liberated
the country, though they had neither home front to support them nor aid
from any regular army.
The tradition of confidence in victory and optimism were brilliantly
displayed in the period of the Fatherland
Liberation War and the post-war socialist construction.
The Korean people defended the national dignity and sovereignty in the
3-year-long war against the U.S.-led
imperialist allied forces and created new miracles in the post-war
rehabilitation and construction, thus demonstrating
the might of Juche Korea.
The spirit and stamina of the Korean people, who courageously stood up
and advanced without hesitation
although they were hard pressed for everything, are still being fully
displayed.
The leadership of the great leader and party are the ideological and
mental factor which made the Korean people
possess the unshakable faith and ever-victorious optimism.
Especially, overcoming the ordeals of the 1990s, the Korean people have
keenly realized through their life that
they will win when they are led by General Secretary Kim Jong Il.
Therefore, the Korean people are vigorously accelerating the canter
march for the building of a powerful nation
with optimism that no matter how difficult the struggle of this year is,
their victory will be certain when they advance
under the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il.
