A ministry statement said search and reconnaissance patrols had been stepped up and border posts strengthened. The ministry said clashes had occurred on its border with Kosovo near the Macedonian village of Tanusevci between its troops and unidentified armed groups wearing black camouflage gear. It also said Macedonian army patrols had been shot at several times on Friday but those responsible had then fled. The ministry said none of its soldiers were injured. A team from Macedonia's A1 television were taken hostage for several hours in the same region, also on Friday. Journalist Snezana Lupevska, a member of the team, said they had been held by armed men dressed in black and that the initials UCK (Kosovo Liberation Army) had been marked on one of the weapons. She said the armed group had taken all the team's equipment but they were released unharmed. Macedonia had already reinforced its security measures on February 6, following an attack on a police post in the west of the country. The Interior Ministry said it expected a new wave of refugees and increased attempts to enter the country illegally if Albanian rebels intensified their attacks against Serb forces. During the Kosovo crisis in 1999, Macedonia took in thousands of Albanian refugees who had fled NATO air strikes. ______________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
