It comes despite the decision of rival Palestinian militant group Hamas to suspend such strikes. Islamic Jihad say the principle of resistance should not be touched. "The basis of 'as long as there is occupation, there will be resistance' should not be shaken or undermined," Jihad leader Ramadan Abdullah Shalah told the newspaper Al Hayat. Shalah was referring to the decision by the Hamas group to suspend suicide bombings and mortar attacks on Israelis. On Friday, Islamic Jihad was reported to have hinted strongly that it would halt such attacks, although it did not say so explicitly. Shalah dismissed this possibility in the interview with the London-based newspaper conducted at his headquarters in Damascus.
