However, if I am going to break backward compatibility with bourne shell, I would rather use one of the interactive Perl, Python, or Lisp shells.

I liked IPython, but it doesn't quite have enough editing power for me. I'm too addicted to having context sensitive autocomplete these days. I just refuse to type variable names or memorize argument lists anymore.

Also, too many things which are 1 line in the shell are >10 lines in IPython. I don't need the Perl level of density, but 1->10 is a bit much. 1->3 would be acceptable. Possibly I just need to write some library code to match my usage patterns.

I'm currently noodling around on the Scheme shell stuff, but I haven't played with it enough yet to pass judgement.
