At first, I was thinking the article was humor. As in:

=============
"Google is interesting not just because of web search, but because
they're going to try to take that and use it to get into other parts
of software," says Gates as he leans forward in his chair, his body
coiled as if he could spring to his feet at any second.

Not spreading itself too thin is definitely good advice for a
corporation. But I think Microsoft has done a pretty good job
spreading themselves out so far. Who's to say they won't have the
business sense to be able to keep spreading without breaking apart?
And ultimately, it's not so much about how much they control, but that
they control the important stuff.

Something I found interesting about the article was that it further
underscores the claim that Microsoft was unjustly persecuted by the
Justice Department. The allegation was that Microsoft was a monopoly,
and yet Linux and Google and Firefox, more than anything else right
now, are proving that there never was a monopoly. Immensely
profitable business practices, yes. Unethical business practices, I'd
say yes. But monopoly? Ha! says Google.
